About Us
Black Star Creative Collective is a subsidiary of Phocused Black Star Media (PBS Media) developed in 2005 as an entertainment studio that works diligently with the members of its creative team to unleash stories and characters across all media (including but not limited to comics, animation, consumer products and interactive games) that speak to the level of consciousness for all and provide a voice for the unheard.

“The Future is Black” Podcast is an engaging and informative podcast produced by Phocused Black Star Media that explores the untold stories and achievements of black individuals within the realms of technology, animation, and gaming. This podcast aims to shed light on the contributions made by black creatives in shaping the world of art, entertainment, and Afrofuturism.
KHEM FEST is an annual festival & celebration of Black Animation, Gaming and Comic Book Creators.
Founded in 2015 by comic book creator and educator Naseed Gifted, KHEM FEST has grown to become one of the premier animation short film festival in the country, attracting filmmakers and animation enthusiasts from all over the world.
Our offices are located in Newark, NJ.

Thanks for your interest in bringing us to talk with your students. Before we tell you about some of the things that we do, that other visiting authors may also do, we want to tell you about what makes my visits totally unique.
We are a coalition of writers that aspire to inspire the creators of the New World. Our passion for comics, anime, movies and gaming lead us down a path of creativity. We are the individuals that care to make a child happy.
Join Black Star Creative Collective team as we share our experiences in the Animation/Comic industry.
We will unveil the secrets behind creating Black Star Universe and teach you how we create books from start to finish. We provide step-by-step instruction to show you how you can use create characters and develop a compelling story.
Sessions may be done as a workshop with students (and their teachers or families) with step-by-step instruction, or lecture-style. Workshops can also tailored to fit any class.
In addition to creating characters, there will also be emphasis placed on the following:

• Learning from your mistakes

• Educational Training, STEM and Literacy Standards used to make Black Star Universe successful

Storyboarding/ Animatics
Storyboarding
Storyboards are visual organizers, typically a series of illustrations displayed in sequence for the purpose of previsualizing a video, web-based training, or interactive media sequence. Sometimes they are also used to previsualize a web site or application, although typically in that case wireframes are used as part of an iterative design process.
Animatics
Simply put, animatic is an animated storyboard. Boards are brought together in an editing program and are cut together with the correct timing and pace of the film. They include basic sound effects and dialogue recordings.
Similar to storyboards, animatics are used for pre-visualizing the film before production starts. Animatics are extremely important for making an animated movie, since they let you see what the movie might look like for the first time. This is when you first get a sense of the pacing, the rhythm and the progression of your film.
This is also the last step before going into 3D, so it’s important to make sure that no more story changes need to be made.
